WSense S.r.l. is a spinoff company of Rome University "La Sapienza" addressing Internet of Things, terrestrial and underwater monitoring and control systems. WSENSE S.r.l. gathers the expertise of award-winning academics who are internationally renown innovators in the field, an energetic and talented R&D team, as well as a very solid development unit comprising hardware and software engineers. This unique team allows WSENSE to design and develop innovative turn-key solutions customized for different vertical sectors and applications, covering all aspects, from HW design to networking, applications and services, supporting reliability, efficiency, long endurance and security. Current offer includes underwater monitoring and control systems, IoT systems for environmental monitoring and structural health monitoring, technologies for preservation and valorisation of cultural heritage.
In the field of Internet of Underwater Things WSENSE owns international PCT patents at the basis of its cutting edge SUNSET adaptive multi-modal networking framework. It has also developed a security framework for underwater networking and produces the WBlue underwater networking nodes and the WBlue platform, that allows to wirelessly and remotely operate and control underwater sensor and robotic networks.

University of Rome "La Sapienza" participates in the ARCHEOSUb project with the Computer Vision, SENSES (SEnsor NetworkS and Embedded Systems) laboratories and the wireless sensor networks lab. The laboratories includes four faculty members, almost twenty among Ph.D. students and post-docs, and several junior researchers.

MDM Team S.r.l is an official spin-off company of the University of Florence, born in 2012 by a group of professors and researchers of the Applied Mechanics to Machines section at the Department of Industrial Engineering. Currently it has transferable skills of mechatronics, railway engineering, turbo machinery and robotics. MDM Team is active in: advanced engineering and consulting, field measurements and experiments on real plants, mechanical design, prototyping and construction of systems and components, development of mathematical models and software for real-time simulation of dynamical systems.

The mission of the Robotics Division of MDM Team is to develop products and services for unmanned marine applications, contract services for inspection of coastal and freshwater infrastructures/sites.

The Department of Industrial Engineering Florence (DIEF) is one of the largest Departments in the University of Florence in terms of personnel, research activities and funding. Created in 2014 after the global reform of Italian University as the fusion of the former Depts. of Energy Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
